How is Ranunculus repens (Creeping buttercup) more adapted to living in wet conditions than R. acris.?

How is Ranunculus repens (Creeping buttercup) more adapted to living in wet conditions than R. acris.?
R. repens has a low stem and creeps on ground.


R. acris is a tall, erect, hairy, branching plant.





I've forgotten why that makes R. repens more suitable for heavy clays soils and disturbed soil, but it is true. it is possible to find ploughed fields with R. repens in the troughs and R. acris on the peaks.
