also, what does the lime do exactly and how should i apply it, and how long will it take to grow? we have 2 days of sun around 45 degrees, then two days of rain, and then like 5 days of sun in the 60's.
I just bought creeping red fescue %26amp; 4 bags of lime, which do i put down first???
Lime "sweetens" the soil. You put down lime if your soil is to acidic.Lime allows the grass roots to more readily accept fertilizers. You can put down lime any time of the year.Use granular lime,(small pellets)it lasts longer in the soil. Powdered lime lasts just 1 yr.Put down lime with a rotary spreader for the best coverage and 400 lbs per 1000 sq. ft. is a good rate.Plant your grass seed when the ground temperature is a constant 55-60 degree's.If the ground is too cold the seed won't germinate and you will waste the seed. Rake the top of the soil, add in a bag of good topsoil and mix it in,the more ground the more topsoil.Spread the seed, rake it in,tamp it down, cover with hay, water.Watering is important. When water puddles,it's enough.when first grass seedling appear, put down starter fertilizer.Best of Luck to you.
Reply:put down the lime first. it raises the ph of the soil, and makes nutrients available to the plants. it takes several weeks to several months for the lime to work. i spread 6200 lbs of it in january in one of my fields.
Reply:red fescue does not do well in hot climates. Unless your soil is very acidic, the lime is not required. Lime reduces the acidity of the soil. Red fescue will do well in soil with acidity of 5.5 to 6.5. That is slightly acidic, so putting lime in your soil may cause the red fescue to not do well. 7.0 is neutral, neither acidic or basic.
Reply:lime
Reply:You always put the ammendement in the soil first.
