Depression creeping back, i can't sleep and I'm not eating?

So i went cold turkey 15 days ago from a dose of 40mg's/day of celexa, because i was convinced it wasn't helping me.

My head felt wierd so i put myself back on 10mg's. I feel physically well, but i feel the black creeping back in my head, i'm not sleeping well, and i'm not eating (would you call that anorexia, i've always had it but never given it a label, i ALWAYS stop eating when i feel sad?)

I wanted to stop this med, but now i'm not so sure what i should do, carry on taking 10 mg's, put myself back on 40 mg's, or cut to 5 mg's then stop. Opinions??

Depression creeping back, i can't sleep and I'm not eating?
You were probably feeling better because of the med. You should never decrease or stop a medication without talking to your doctor. You should see a doctor soon. I am sure they will put you back on your medication at the correct dosage. The thing with depression is that it, like alot of medical conditions, is an "illness". Here is a way to look at it: People who have high blood pressure take medication for it. They don't stop taking it because their blood pressure goes normal. It is because the med that their blook pressure is normal. You need to look at depression that way. You should see your doctor asap. Believe me I know how the "black hole" can be. Once you get down that far, it is harder to come out if it. Do something about it before it gets that bad. Good luck to you. :)
Reply:You do not have to decide what you should do.

Your doctor has already decided what he/she thinks you should be doing. If you do not think the Celexa is working, talk to your doctor. You are a team working together to help you feel better. Your not eating or sleeping well are signs of depression. I think it has already crept back. I think it is here.

Maybe your doctor will try a new medication. Feel Better Soon
Reply:Place your self back on your medication, and start TODAY

I think that you need to accept your disease. Its life long lasting.

Depression is a terrible disease and has many side effects,

one of which is NOT EATING, and another NOT SLEEPING

Why?

Well what happens is you get caught up in your thoughts and feeling sad.

so all you think about is your sadness

And its so overwhelming you can only focus on these thoughts

Try this Take your Meds

make a healthy sandwich turkey, lettuce tomatoe and a little Mayo or mustard on a roll

next go for a walk atleast 20 minutes

and eat tree you pass, ask your self what kind of tree that is,

and pick up a leaf

Smell the leaf, and take it with you

if there are 2 trees exactly the same ask your self if they are related, where did this tree come from?

and pick up a leaf and smell it.

taking it with you.

When you get home put the leaves in a bowl, and enjoy them.

and tonight when you are ready for bed boil some water and

fill the bowl.

Breathe in the scents and steam for 10 minutes

appreciate the beauty, and power of nature.

isn't it lovely?

Then before you lay your head down, you will read some prayers,

http://www.bahaiprayers.org/

if you have a TV turn it on and keep the volume very low

watch a positive movie, NO NEWS, or VIOLENCE, nothing serious, and leave the TV on while you sleep.

After a few days you'll be back as good as new and feeling refreshed,

Make an appointment to see your doctor, and see if he can't suggest a diffrent or additional meds that will better alleviate your symptoms.

I wish you all the best

Reply:The one thing that I learned about depression from watching my husband and hearing about his doctor's appointments is that it takes time to get the correct dosage and the correct meds. It's definately not something that the person taking the meds should take control over. Try to get back to your prescribed dosage and get back to your doctor as fast as you can.
Reply:I think you should consult your doctor about this. As you may already know, it can take years of trying various meds, various dosages, various combinations before you find what works for you. In the neantime, maybe try and force a couple of cand of unsure into you each day. Get some excercise too (if you can).

But see your dotor ASAP.

Things will get better.
Reply:Don't go back to the celexa; you didn't like taking it. Your head felt weird when you tried to stop taking it because you were going thru withdrawal. I will find an article on that and send it to you later.

Keep taking the reduced dose and tell your doctor to put you on a different antidepressant. Then you can continue to wean off the celexa.

I am one of those people who can't stop taking antidepressants. You should change types now and then. I'm on my 4th. But I'm not depressed.
Reply:Its not anorexia... bad depression, you can not feel like eating or sleeping for days, or vice versa.

Hope you get out of it.... Good Luck......
Reply:I would talk to your Dr about changing doses of medicine before doing so. Maybe work yourself back up to the 40mgs and see if that helps...maybe you became tolerant of it and this will bring a new life to it..who knows though, I'd hate to tell you something like that and then something bad happen to you..please talk to your dr.
Reply:Sweetie, please go back on the prescribed meds and see your doctor. I am worried about you and especially your son. YOU have to be well in order to care for him.
