Given all the stories seen on here, I think we are and well done to David Cameron on highlighting this whilst the Home Secretary is content to bury her head in the sand. What do you think? Who's right, who's wrong?

Britain is "creeping" towards a state where violence is socially acceptable, Conservative leader David Cameron has warned in a speech.
He said aggression was being "feted" - as illustrated by the use of mobile phones to film people being beaten up.
He called for a "relentless focus" on low level disorder and a crackdown on knife and gun crime.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith accused him of "alarmist rhetoric" and said crime was down by a third since 1997.
Are We Creeping Towards A Society Where Violence Is Acceptable...?
I thiink we have already reached that point and Jacqui Smith is talking rubbish. If crime really is down it's because it is either not reported, the CPS don't pursue cases to Court and not many people go to prison because there is no room for them.
It all makes an interesting slant on the old adage 'let the punishment fit the crime'. More like 'no punishment, no crime'.
And why should we expect any shame from violent criminals and thugs in general? They know that people won't defend themselves for fear that they will be the ones who end up in court. Even if, by some unlucky chance, someone throws the book at this scum, the courts will let them off. Oh yes.
Reply:It will never be acceptable, but it will win in the end.
I believe law %26amp; order will disappear %26amp; violence will rule our world. Sadly.
Reply:don't talk crap....if you accept that it's okay to drop bombs on civilians then what is wrong with a few slaps for someone who is a pain in the ***
Reply:Crime down by a third since 1997, tell that to the Marines. Crime recording may be down as half the crimes are no longer counted. As for Jacqui Smith being Home Secretary, she is not even qualified enough to be the Home Secretary's secretary.
Reply:Another Frustrated Tory grasping at straws and trying to play the crime card. After 13 years of Tory government their crime rate figures were by far more than at present.
Reply:I think the majority will always abhor violence but it is becoming an increasing problem and many young people think violence is "normal" behaviour. This is a frightening change in society. I think David Cameron is right in worrying about the level of violence but unless there are more police on the streets ( and I don't just mean going from one 999 call to another as they do at the moment) the downhill slide will continue.
Manipulated statistics. All you have to do is change the criteria for recording crime and you can make the figures look better.
I'd like to see any politician pledge to put 5000 more police on the streets in Britain over a period of five years. I'd vote for them - but only if they carry out their pledge.
Reply:What do you mean creeping? For crying out loud we're gallivanting at a full gallop towards it!!
Reply:John Law wants to know if you're a fan of Glentoran?
Reply:David Cameron? He is nothing but a workshy toff who has never done a days work in his entire life. Who is he to talk about society?
He knows nothing about how ordinary folks lead their lives and should bugger back to Eton where his f*g will roger some sense into him.
Reply:yes
which is terrifying for any of us with children
Reply:I went off him when he said
"He said he was not advocating "an army of vigilantes and have-a-go heroes".
Frankly thats exactly what is needed and the sooner the better.
and the other lot have been in for the last 10 years and probably going to vote a pay rise for themselves larger than they are offering the police.
Reply:violance is a necessary evil.
Reply:We are already in a society where its accptable,Read the papers.
