ok...here goes. there is a guy i work with that i'm sure is in love with me (i'm not vain, others have noticed it, too), and he totally creeps me out. he constantly moons over me and acts as if he's waiting for me to come to work one day, announce that my marriage has ended and that i love him too. it is too weird!! and things are getting even weirder. he even claims to have some kind "telepathic" sense about me. here's the problem: according to the guidelines of where i work, he hasn't done anything that can be considered sexual harassment and given his personality, there's no way to confront him about it w/o him denying it (he constantly lies and exaggerates everything anyway) and i would still have to work with him even if i did. i've spoken with my supervisor, but either she doesn't care or can't think of anything that can be done. i can't relocate at work, so essentially, i have no recourse. everyone i've spoken with is as confounded by it as i am. advice, please?!!?
Colleague is in love with me and creeping me out; what can i do?
Talk to him and/or HR. Let them know that he is too close for comfort and you would like for him to maintain more distance from you. (Physical space, personal space, conversations, what ever it is that is making you uncomfortable) If comes to your desk to often to try and talk to you, just shut the conversation down as soon as you can while still being polite. "That's really interesting Gary, but I'm in the middle of something right now for work so I'll need you to leave so I can finish this." Something like that. Every time you find yourself in a one on one situation with him (copy room, break room) excuse yourself and leave the area. With enough of this, and with your conversation with HR and see if they can offer you any specific suggestions how to make the situation better, it should get the point across to him.
If this all fails, then you may have to talk to him one on one and let him know that he makes you uncomfortable and he needs to maintain more distance away from you.
Reply:I had a crush on my co-worker once. She was already involved with another guy, but I was smitten. She had a really nice body...
Anyway, I might have come off a little creepy towards her. OK, I did. She asked me really nicely to please stop fawning over her. I said ok, and that was the end of it. We're still friends 10 years later.
Reply:I completey agree that you should go to HR. They should do their job and take care of it. Tell him that his words and actions make you uncomfortable and tell him that he may speak to you if it is about work, and that is all. Be firm.
Reply:tell him to buzz off
Reply:talk to your supervisor, if they don't take action got to HR, if they don't act file a harassment suit ASAP.
people get killed by nut jobs like this guy, cuz they don't do anything or don't take it seriously.
